Adán P.

Adán emigrated to the United States from Mexico 20 years ago, looking for a better life.

In Mexico, Adán was involved in the film industry as a writer, actor and production manager. “The art of film is like a collective dream,” Adán says. “In order to make others dream, you have to be able to dream yourself. Art can help people change and become better.”

When the Mexican film industry fell on hard times, work dried up. With a large family to support, Adán decided to come to the U.S. However, he found it difficult to break into the film industry here. While he worked briefly in television, he needed a consistent income and turned to painting houses.

Adán found it difficult to make ends meet, and he became homeless, eventually coming to Pine Street Inn. “Pine Street’s staff treated me with dignity,” says Adán. “I have so much respect for the work Pine Street does.”

“One day, my case manager let me know about an apartment that was available at a Pine Street residence,” Adán continues. “I’ve been here for about eight years, and I love my apartment. The staff are wonderful and the other tenants are like my family.”

“I have the peace I need to be happy and to write,” Adán says. “I’m currently writing for a local publication. My goal is to write for TV, radio and the theater, .and I have a few projects in the works.”

“We only live once and we have to make the most of that gift of life,” concludes Adán.
