The Laundry Project: An Emergency Replacement of Old Machines

Pine Street Inn washes more than 4,000 pounds of laundry daily to provide each of our guests with clean sheets, blankets, pajamas and towels. This high daily volume—which becomes even greater during the winter—puts a severe strain on our industrial washing machines and dryers.

After nearly two decades of constant use, our old machines at the Men’s Inn recently reached the end of their service. Several washing machines were broken beyond repair, and the others were frequently breaking down, with replacement parts no longer available. Because of this, Pine Street Inn made the decision to replace these broken and aging machines with new industrial models.

At the cost of $215,000, this purchase has presented an enormous unbudgeted expense putting considerable strain on our resources. Please consider helping us cover these costs as soon as possible in order to ensure we can continue to take care of Boston’s most vulnerable population. Thank you!
